On 18 April 2022, the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine held a roundtable discussion titled “Education: A realm of sociological studies and a prerequisite for the survival of society in extraordinary circumstances”. The Faculty of Sociology (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) and “Vseosvita”, a nationwide educational platform, were the co-organisers of this event. The following topics were discussed: history of education as a social institution, distinguishing features of sociological research in this area, education and career choice, national-patriotic education of pupils and students, self-education and upskilling, student agency and contributory factors, educational inequality, opportunities and challenges of distance learning, inclusive education, etc. Special attention was given to issues related to the educational process itself during the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Some of the presentations made by participants are offered to the audience’s attention.
