STEPAN VOVKANYCH

Abstract. The paper puts forward the concept of contemporary Ukrainian National Idea (UNI), whose components serve as stratagems for state-building in Ukraine during a hybrid war imposed on this country by Russia. The author underlines the importance of socio-humanistic approach to the intellectual and spiritual underpinnings for ideological reinforcement of state-building processes in Ukraine. This approach is regarded as an imperative, which is inherently strategic and supposed to strengthen the system of Ukraine’s national security. At the same time, emphasis is placed on the necessity of establishing sustainable systems to maintain international security and world order — since neglecting this critical aspect has resulted in Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbas.
The socio-humanistic approach, aimed at both protecting a human being and safeguarding the nation in times of globalising hybrid warfare (informational in particular), brings to the forefront cognitive, informational, intellectual, spiritual and other aspects in order to address them at national level. Furthermore, effective protection against the above-described threats involves the strengthening of international security systems such as the Euro-Atlantic political and military alliance, UN structures, etc. Another factor that has to be taken into consideration is linguistic, cultural, religious and historical backgrounds of indigenous peoples, their right to build nationstates in their native land, thereby enriching the global diversity.

Keywords: socio-humanistic underpinnings of state-building, Ukrainian National Idea, stratagems for the country’s development, spiritual and informational mobility of a human (nation), intellectual and spiritual elite, nation-state
